When it comes to scams on the Internet there is no shortage. One of the biggest place dating scammers abound is Russian dating sites for
meeting Russian women

for marriage.

One of the biggest reasons this attracts so many scammers is the general profile of a man who meets a woman this way is a man whose income level is in the middle to upper income bracket.   The purpose of the Russian dating scam is the same purpose of any scam and that is to trick you out of your money.

The way the Russian dating scam works in most cases is the scammer creates a fake profile and posts it on a Russian dating site pretending to be a beautiful Russian girl.  When the interaction between the Russian dating scammer and the man interested in meeting Russian women reaches a point where they talk about meeting, the scammer would usually ask the individual for money to come meet him or they will create a sob story about how their mother or some other family member is ill and they desperately need the money.

Even if the scammer doesn't get away with it the best case scenario is he is wasted a lot of your time and perhaps created the disappointment of a woman who you thought was real turns out to be fake. You can save yourself a lot of headaches by applying these two tests that will flush out a Russian dating scammer. Either of these two tests by themselves are not conclusive. If the supposed Russian girl you are talking to fails both of these tests you most likely have a Russian dating scammer on your hands.

The first test involves testing for disparities between e-mail addresses. In the first couple of e-mails you exchange with a Russian woman you will notice her e-mail address in the from field.  Make note of that e-mail address. Does the Russian girl ask you to reply back to her to a different e-mail address. If the e-mail address in the from field is from the dating agency or Russian dating site then this particular test doesn't mean much because it just means she is e-mailing you through the dating sites e-mail service to maintain anonymity. If anything this is a good indication that it is a legitimate Russian woman and not a scammer.

During your initial communications with her identify her general location by finding out where she lives. Confirm she is also sending me and receiving e-mails from you from this general location as well. Every e-mail has an identifying number called the IP address that it comes from. Tracing the IP address will tell you the location of where her e-mails are coming from. In order to view the IP address or where e-mails are coming from you need to enable full header view from your e-mail client. This exact procedure varies from e-mail client to e-mail client. In Yahoo when you were viewing her message in the extreme lower right-hand corner of the e-mail there will be a link – Full Header – clicking on that link will let you see full headers. In Outlook express click on the menu items File>Options. If you are not sure how to do it from your e-mail client just go to the help section for your e-mail and type in -full headers-. 

The message headers look like a bunch of lines of encrypted garble. What you're looking for is a line which will be about halfway to three quarters of the way down that will look something like this…

That number or sequence of four numbers separated by periods is the IP address or originating IP address of where the e-mail came from. Copy that sequence of numbers to your clipboard. Go to the website http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/

Paste the IP address into the form and click submit. If the geographic location returned from the trace is vastly different from where the Russian girl says she lives then you probably have a Russian dating scammer on your hands. The only other possible explanation for the geographical disparity is if she is using some sort of an anonymity client to maintain privacy which is unlikely.

As they say in house is only as strong as its foundation and one of the best ways to avoid a shaky house is to have a solid foundation and what I mean by that is if you deal with only highly reputable, verified, Russian dating and marriage agencies you're never going to have to deal with Russian dating scammers in the first place.
